pre-Mother's Day

At our house, we like holidays and birthdays to last as long as possible...for example...we take up a birthday MONTH, not just a day. For my Mother's Day, it was a 2-day affair. Saturday, after getting some stuff out of the way (dance class and James' haircut) we headed over to the AMF bowling alley in Irving. This was our first time bowling, but it was a load of fun....the place wasn't busy at all, which was good, since we take up about 3 area's of seating. This is the best contraption...we didn't have bumpers, but the girls still did pretty good (better than mommy AND daddy to start, but daddy's Wii practice helped give him that extra edge).

Bella has become the best helper, always right by Aube's side to make sure she's doing things right ;).
As you can see, Mommy lost. lol. I used to bowl all the time in high school. I dunno what happened! ha. Wii bowling is much easier!!
While the girls napped, I treated myself to a pedicure and a trip to the bookstore for some books on my list.
For dinner it was a toss-up between Pappadeaux (which I still haven't been to), Razoo's (which James always goes to without me) and Texas Roadhouse. The craving for a good steak won out, and we waited 50 min for a table at Roadhouse. The weather was beautiful, if not a little chilly...so the wait wasn't too horrible. We are getting to be those people that won't leave a restaurant even if the wait is long. We figure by the time we get to another restaurant, we could have been seated at the first one. So we wait. And wait. lol

And what's Mother's Day without flowers? For the record, these are from the girls, not James...since I am "not his mother." I get a kick out of it when he says that to me.

Happy Mother's Day.

I'm a little biased when it comes to my mom...I think she is absolutely wonderful. She is everything one could ask for...loving, compassionate, comforting, she is always there for her children, she raised us to be the awesome people we are Ü, she sets a good example as a mother, she keeps her word, she loves without conditions, she's funny, smart and creative.
Life has thrown us a wrench, since I am here and she is way over there...but I know one day Sunday dinners will not be a thing of the past, and we'll be able to hang out and watch 'Days' (or 24) again.
I love being able to take time on this Mother's Day to think about my Mothers, because I am lucky enough to have two women in my life to call Mom. I've always had and will continue to have my mom as my best friend...and I have had Mommalove (no in-laws here, she is more than that) in my life for several years now, each of which she has influenced my life for good. Her loving example and kind heart always make me smile.

So, Happy Mother's day to you two ladies...you deserve to be treated like queens today. Thank you for your love...for me, for James and most of all for my children. Some ladies will say "Oh, I'm too young to be a grandma" and that breaks my heart. My mothers say to me "When are you going to get pregnant again, it's about that time." Ü They love my children and see their potential, ever praising and ever encouraging them.

Thank you for all that you do for me. I LOVE YOU!!!

A Mother.

The young mother set her foot on the path of life. "Is this the long way?" she asked. And God answered her "Yes, this way is hard, and you will be old before you reach the end of it. But the end will be better than the beginning." But the young mother was happy, and she would not believe that anything could be better than these years. So she played with her children, she fed them and bathed them, taught them how to tie their shoes and ride a bike, and reminded them to feed the dog and do their homework and brush their teeth. The sun shone on them and the young Mother cried, "Nothing will ever be lovelier than this."
Then the nights came, and the storms and the path was sometimes dark, and the children shook with fear and cold, and the mother drew them close and covered them with her arms and the children said, "Mother, we are not afraid, for you are near, and no harm can come." And the morning came, and there was a hill ahead, and the children climbed and grew weary, and the mother was weary. But at all times she said to the children, "a little patience and we are there." So the children climbed and as they climbed they learned to weather the storms. And with this, she gave them strength to face the world. Year after year she showed them compassion, understanding, and hopes, but most of all...unconditional love.
And when they reached the top they said, "Mother, we would not have done it without you." The days went on, and the weeks and the months and the years, and the mother grew old and she became little and bent. But her children were tall and strong, and walked with courage. And the mother, when she lay down at night, looked up at the stars and said, "This is a better day than the last, for my children have learned so much and are now passing these traits on to their children."
And when the way became rough for her, they lifted her, and gave her their strength, just as she had given them hers. One day they came to a hill, and beyond the hill they could see a shining road and golden gates flung wide. And Mother said: "I have reached the end of my journey. And now I know the end is better than the beginning, for my children can walk with dignity and pride, with their heads held high, and so can their children after them."
And the children said, "You will always walk with us, Mother, even when you have gone through the gates." And they stood and watched her as she went on alone, and the gates closed after her. And they said: "We cannot see her, but she is with us still. A Mother is more than a memory. She is a living presence. Your Mother is always with you. She's the whisper of the leaves as you walk down the street, she's the smell of certain foods you remember, flowers you pick and perfume that she wore, she's the cool hand on your brow when you're not feeling well, she's your breath in the air on a cold winters day. She is the sound of the rain that lulls you to sleep, the colors of a rainbow, she is your birthday morning. Your Mother lives inside your laughter and she's crystallized in every tear drop. A mother shows every emotion...happiness, sadness, fear, jealousy, love, hate, anger, helplessness, excitement, joy, sorrows - all the while hoping and praying you will only know the good feelings in life. She's the place you came from, your first home, and she's the map you follow with every step you take. She's your first love, your first friend, even your first enemy, but nothing on earth can separate you. Not time, not space, not even death!

A Love Letter: To My Mother

Dear Mom,
Today, for my Sharing Time lesson, as part of my lesson, I passed around a few pictures of the two of us when I was young. I introduced the pictures, saying “This is someone very special to me” and the tears started to fall! I felt like such a goober, bawling in front of my Sunbeams, Stars and CTR 5/6! One child said to me, “You must really love your mommy”, another complimented me with “You look just like your mommy did.” And all I could do was smile thru my tears and say, Yes, I do love my mommy very, very much....and thank you for the compliment, my mommy is very beautiful!
I love it when I look at my life and think, I am just like you. I couldn't ask for a better example! You have been a source of light in my life....constantly guiding me as an infant, a child, a teenager, a young adult, and now I look to that light to learn how to be a mother to my children. I know that life is not easy for you, for any mother.....our responsibilities are numerous and often unrewarding. I hope to live my life and raise my children in a way that you can be proud of us, so that you might see THAT as your reward.
It breaks my heart that we are so far apart! I hope one day we live in a place where we can see each other on a daily basis and my children can see their totally fabulous Gramma whenever they want! One day!
I appreciate you and all that you do, I love you with all of my heart! I hope that this Mother's Day you were treated like the Queen you are!
LOVE, Sarah Ü
