Fun at the Zoo!

Today we spent the morning at the Dallas Zoo. My visiting teacher takes her grandson like 2-3 times a month and has a pass that includes 10 extra free admissions. So earlier in the week she invited us along...the girls have been so excited for the past 2 days (I had to explain the...go to sleep, wake up, eat, play, go to sleep...etc...to Bella several times).
At first, I didn't realize we were going to the DALLAS Zoo...I've never been there and I guess I had just about it. So, as I tell her directions out of my neighborhood, I just assume and point her towards the 30...
(side note: I was informed that "the 30" or "the 20" is not how "real" Texans refer to highways. And that GrandPrairians find it highly amusing that we "west coast folk" refer to it that way...the proper "Texas" way is "30" or "20"....yeah.)
Well...we ended up taking the 30 over to Dallas...which I thought my friend would be able to find, since she did profess to go to this zoo several times a month. But somehow we ended up on Malcom X Rd and Martin Luther King Blvd.....need I say more?! I'm not the type to get scared of the dark and dreary places on this earth...but I had a little twinge of fear snake it's way up my spine. Thanks to a call to James, we found out where we were and he got us headed in the right direction.
One of the perks, other than free admission, was unlimited carousel rides! I get a bit dizzy, so I'm glad we tapped out at 3 times in a row Ü.

I was so excited to hear they had a little peguin display at this zoo. I have yet to be to the new exhibit at the Ft Worth Zoo. I think peguins are the funniest, most amazing little creatures...just seeing them today makes me want to go and study about them...then go to like Antartica and study them there....lol, well, almost. Do they make purple parka's?

This poor guy made me sad...the gorillas usually do...they seem so sad and alone in zoo's (compared to....Tarzan? lol). Sis P told me all about how a few years ago a gorilla escaped and injured 4 people. Crazy stuff, huh? I had to look it up this afternoon and find out the story. This is a cute monkey...sitting politely in a tree....This is a mean monkey...sitting on a ledge in front of where we were sitting...THROWING ROCKS AT US. He would literally pick up a handfull of rocks and chunk them at where we were sitting. The first time we had no clue what it really was....it was a mere sprinkle...but then SECOND time....it showered us...I look up to see what the heck was going on and this stinker was just a-smilin' at us.
I guess they are building an elephant habitat, too? But I hope so...this little lady seemed so sad! She's probably dreaming of the circus ;).
I love the zoo...just love it.
We ended our excursion at a really cool McDonalds....in which Aube got stuck at the top of the playland. She has been known to do this, but I tempted fate today. Thank goodness for an agile visiting teacher...she shimmied right up that thing and brought her back down!! Crazy girl.

Great pics! I love the zoo, but we rarely go... maybe we should try the Dallas zoo, I haven't been there since I was little. There's a pawn shop in GP where there's a gorilla in a cage. He throws POOP at people and he shoots the finger, no kidding.

That made me laugh Sarah b/c here we call it 90 or 94 (the highway) and when I moved to Vegas I thought to myself why do these people put "THE" in front of every highway? Looks like you had a fun day at the zoo! Cute pictures.

I told the chick that it had to be a west coast thing...but I don't remember saying "the 55"...I thought we just called it "I 55" lol. But I do remember saying "the 215" ...oh MAN!! I didnt even realize it till this lady pointed it out.

Um...yeah...the 215, the 95, the I-15!! Doesn't it sound weird to NOT put 'the' in there??? It's like you aren't saying a complete sentence otherwise;)
Anyway, love the monkey throwing rocks at you! That is hilarious. And I love the penguins too. They are so cute and so interesting! I especially love the fact that the MEN keep their eggs (kiddos) warm before they hatch. That's awesome!!

HAHA!! I-55!! Yep, but I guess I have never heard of "THE" put in front of the number ;) Now, I realize I do say 94 or 75 here in Michigan. Somewhere along the way, I dropped the "I"!! Wish I would've had time to go to the zoo when I was there :(

Seriously, Sarah, COME ON! No real Texas says "the 30!" Glad you're all straightened out. ;)

I love the zoo. Reading this post makes me want to take the boys this week!

I believe the proper way to reference something (like, say a freeway) is to put "the" in front of it! It's grammatically correct!

... and I love the zoo too! Vegas' zoo is more sad and heart wrenching than fun and educational.

I've also heard random Northeners put "the" in front. Remember Texas is its own country. We have a flag that can fly as high as the US flag and we can make up any language we want. Like fixin too, gonna, y'all and how we get to work by taking 20 to 360 to 183 to 161 to 114 and then exit!
