The Greatest {Family Picnic} on Earth!

This year's XTO family picnic theme was the Circus (I loved the title they gave it...I used to watch "The Greatest Show on Earth" at my Grams and PopPop's house when I was little). I felt so bad for the party planners...cause all it did was drizzle and rain the whole time!! I think we had some fun, though....despite the cruddy weather.
When we first got there they had 'vendors' handing out popcorn, cotton candy, peanuts and cracker jacks. It was unlimited and everywhere you went someone was handing you a treat! But I was TRULY disappointed that there were no funnel cakes...I guess that's more Fair food.
They had it at Big League Dreams sports park....each of the different replica ballparks had a part of the circus set up. Right when we walked up, there were the bounce houses and games, etc. Bella was SO EXCITED to go into the bounce houses, but the rain had made puddles inside the bouncers and she got soaking wet within the first 10 minutes were were there, poor girl.
So, to cut off the temptation....we headed over to ride an elephant!
Aube had this bag of popcorn while were waiting in line and the little girl in front of us would stand right in front of her and give the pouty eyes. Aube, being naturally shy, would just look back at her, not saying a word. So, then this little girl would reach her hand right into the bag, still looking straight at Aube...it was hilarious. I guess that's one version of 'sharing'.

Riding the elephant was pretty cool...I have to admit I had a teensy bit of apprehension, visions of breaking the poor animals back! The girls got a kick out of it...
Of course, it started raining when we sat down to eat. Thank goodness for umbrella's, even if they were crappy Dollar Store ones. I now KNOW we need to invest in some good, GINORMOUS umbrella's...you just never know when you're gonna need them! Aube had her first (?) taste of Dr Pepper...or what she kept calling Root Beer. Yeah...she was a little hyper after that. Just a bit. And she kept asking for more....I understand her plight, the good Dr is quite addictive.
So much fun stuff....yet SO MUCH RAIN. It was just a drizzle, so we were grateful we could still actually BE there...but that doesn't make it any less annoying. Bella wanted to play in the bouncers SO BAD, but she came out of those first ones so gross and covered in nasties, I just couldn't let her go back in!
So, she got her face painted with a unicorn.
Not as cool as last year's butterfly...but Im always amazed at how good of a job they do!
After that , the girls got balloon animals while I stood in line to get our caricatures drawn. I LOVE caricatures! They guy did a good job (except for James'....he looks like he has food in his cheeks) and I'm trying to find a way to scan it to put it on here...its kinda big.

Through out the night they had several shows going on....a Big Top that had acrobats, a chick being shot out of a cannon and a couple riding a motorcycle on a wire. The big top act was pretty cool...it's amazing how bend-y some people can be.
You can't really see him, I should have lightened this picture somehow. But James and I were cracking up because he had on this Matrix-like coat...it was hilarious....probably just to us, but we had a good time wondering where the Matrix dude was. The bend-y Matrix dude. Ü

Rain, rain go AWAY.
Watching the shows from the dugouts...we were the smart ones there at the end ;). It was a fun time...even with the rain. XTO does such a wonderful job with their events!

That stinks that it was raining, but it still looks like a lot of fun! What a great place to work that throws such nice events for the family!!

Great pics, Sarah! Thomas sat through bingo with Rex, but we both decided it isn't worth it next year, too many other things to do. Rex will be big enough to play. We had a good time too. I told Thomas to tell Benny to have it at Six Flags next year... Whatever it will be, we are already looking forward to it!
Now we can look forward to the Christmas party! Craps again?
