I love getting counsel....help on the day to day. Even if I have heard something 100 times....that 101 time can sometimes finally make a dent. Which is probably why I extremely enjoy things like General Conference...or Relief Society Conference...or Visiting Teaching conference. I truly believe that we are taught things "repetitively" because they are true and we NEED them in our daily life.
Today's two conference sessions re-affirmed my beliefs and testimony....I loved the challenges and advice that was given.
I loved that Henry B. Eyring called members of the Church optimists. Eternal optimists. And isn't that so true? No matter how bad things may get in this world, we have our eternity to look forward to. If we but put our trust and faith in our Heavenly Father, and LIVE each day as He would have us live...we have an eternity of happiness to look forward to.
I also love what he said about prayer, in regards to husbands and wives. He said that we should pray for love to make the weaknesses and mistakes seems small, that we should pray for love to help lessen the load, that we should pray for the love to make your companions joy your own.
I loved how L. Tom Perry spoke about learning from those who came before us and how preparation in all aspects of life can remove the fear that can overwhelm. He challenged us to gain testimony on these 3 basic principles:
1. the Restoration of the Gospel
1. the Restoration of the Gospel
2. the Plan of Salvation
3. the Gospel of Jesus Christ
All three things we are constantly taught...but when I look deep within, do I need to work on my testimony for those things, individually and as a combination? Yes, I do. I believe, I have faith...I can stand up and say I know it's true, but do I need to study more, of course...there is always more to learn!
I didn't take many notes on Jeffrey R. Hollands talk, mainly because I was mesmerized thru the whole thing. He had it difficult, speaking after the choir sang O, Divine Redeemer, such a BEAUTIFUL song! I loved his comments on the Prophet Joseph Smith and his brother Hyrum, about how their lives are a testimony of the truthfulness of this church and the Book of Mormon. His testimony was so wonderful....I love how he said "like them, I give my name to witness unto the world". Oh, what a wonderful thing, to give our names, declaring that we know of the truthfulness of what we have been given!
And then, of course, listening to the Prophets voice. He hit home with the question, "What have you done for someone today?" Service is such a big part of the eternal scheme of things. If we don't lose ourselves in service to others, we have little purpose in our own life. He reminded us that at baptism, we covenant to lift each others burdens. I loved how when asked what he wanted for his birthday last year, he requested that we serve! He talked about one primary that sent him a jar full of "warm fuzzies", each one representing an act of service (so using this idea in our primary). I'm so thankful for the challenge he presented of finding a way to serve every day...goodness knows I get caught up in the busy-ness of my life and need to spend more time taking care of the things that really matter!
Mosiah 2:17 "...when ye are in the service of your fellow beings, ye are only in the service of your God."
Today is just what I needed...

It was a great General conference...some of those things are my favorite points as well. Love the X that bella made! Cute!
It definitely was a great conference. The theme sure was service. I guess I better get on that:) I love the primary idea. I think everyone should do it. And to ask your kids at the dinner table what they did today for someone else. It's so great! Oh, and praying for the spouse was so good too!! :)
We had AAC and soccer and so many other things that demanded our time this weekend, but I am looking forward to watching it on the internet and getting the conference issue of the Ensign so I can read it all too.
