I am a Bad Mommy...Reason #72.

Today was the girls first dentist appointment...that's right...my 5 and 3 year old have never set foot in a dental office until today. I really have no excuses...so we'll just stick with the #72. It's adding up....

They did well, too....they actually seemed like they were having fun. Of course, I would, too...if my dentist called a shot: "bubbles" and the cleaning: "tickling your teeth". And if I got to play with toys and get a prize at the end of my visit...I think I'd want to go to the dentist ALL the time.
The dental assistants taught them how to brush their teeth and 'painted' their teeth to see where all the sugar 'bugs' were. Then they taught James and I how to floss their teeth the easy way...it had never occurred to me to actually floss their teeth!  They both did great getting their xrays and teeth cleaned...and it looks like Bella will lose her two bottom teeth any time now. We found out she has 2 cavities...which I kind of expected, so I'm not surprised at all...not looking forward to taking her to get fillings at the end of the month, tho. We are the parents that started consistent teeth brushing like....off and on, here and there. We were more consistent in this last week because they had a dentist appointment!  We also let our kids go to bed with their bottles when they were babies, and with watered-down juice as toddlers...yes, THOSE parents. Ü So...we can deal with 2 cavities. They also both have cross-bites, which just means their bite is crooked from having small mouths, I guess. They can thank me for that later, I remember having to have the roof of my mouth split when I was a kid...no fun.

I wish I had remembered my camera! They were too cute laying there in the dentist chair, with their groovy 80s sunglasses on, holding the spit-sucker thingy. I'm glad that is was a good experience for them...better to start out early and not be scared to go to the dentist later...plus, this particular dentist is a 45 min drive...so that makes me even happier that they did well!

YOU forgot your camera?! What has the world come to? Just kidding! :)
I'm glad they did well. I hope the fillings go well too. (Oh - and all of my back teeth are filled with fillings - despite the fact I've brushed atleast twice a day and flossed almost every day of my life. Some things just aren't preventable . . . Don't feel guilty!)

Did you go to Dr. W in Ft Worth? That sounds like him.

As in Dr Weiner :) hahaha. I can't help but laugh. It was his office, we didn't see him, tho...we saw Dr P...can't remember how to spell her name :).

And that is a VERY valid point, Cheree...I guess we just do what we can, and be thankful we can have pretty dentures when they all fall out!! :)

Yup...it's all about genetics! I floss all the time and Trav never does but he never has any cavities. Not fair!!! I have taken Makenna early but all they did was look at them and count her teeth. They don't do all the cleaning and other stuff until they are older anyway! :) I think I'm going to take mine during spring break so Trav can be with me to help.
