2 months old {& a tutorial}

Jaxson is now 2 months old! Time has flown by so fast. On one hand it's amazing that he's been in our lives for 2 months, but on the other, it feels like he's been here the entire time.

This is him, all bug-eyed on Sunday, his actual 2 month-day...decked out and ready for church.

*Today was Jax's 2 month appt. He's a whopping 12 lbs 12 ounces and 23 inches long. Which means he's in the 75th percentile for weight and 50th for height (much different from the girls, who always seemed to be 95th in everything). He had his 2 shots and did pretty well...I don't blame him for crying, tho...those needles are big!! I'm hoping he can take a good nap this afternoon, sleep away the boo-boo.

*Speaking of sleep....Jax has slept thru the night for the past 3 weeks (knock on wood!). He goes down about 10:30 and doesn't wake up till 5:30 or 6:30. He then has another bottle and we doze till about 8ish. BUT...he likes to mix it up on me here and there Ü. The girls never slept thru the night this early, I attribute it to the fact that he's a bottle baby, not a boob man. It's been about 2 1/2, maybe 2 weeks of just bottle...and he's a happier little tyke. He still prefers to be held (all the time)...but he's not constantly wanting to eat. He has finally mastered the binky, thank goodness...we had to move from Nuk to Soothies to accomplish that tho...but he loves that bink...I can pop it in and bounce him right to sleep...

*That another thing that's SO different (I talk about these differences because the girls were very similar as babies, but this little dude is making me feel like a first-time mom all over again - minus the complete exhaustion, thank goodness) is not nursing this boy to sleep...he won't even be fed to sleep...he has to be bounced and swaaaaaaayed to sleep. lol. We have our little routine. You can tell he's tired right off...the biggest sign being the eyelids turning a slight shade of red (he does have this in common with the girls...for instance, I was going to let them skip naps today and we were well on our way in that direction, then I took a look at their eyes...and NOPE...go on now and take a nap, you red-eyed girlies). So, I take him on into the room and we bounce bounce bouncebouncebouncebouncebounce and swaaaaaaaaaay. It either takes 5 minutes or 15....but if we've been bouncing for 15, we take a breather and try it again later....there's only so much a momma can take!

*He finally started smiling AT me.....like last night at the baseball game. I was making him clap his hands to the GO RANGERS beat...and he would just laugh his little head off. I'm so thankful that, at this point in time, my life is 'chill' enough to where I can realize the MOMENT my baby first starts to smile. It's such a beautiful moment, too.

And now for a tutorial! Yay!
I have to confess...I DID see this tutorial somewhere else...but I didn't bookmark it and when I went back to try and find it, no luck! I googled and searched and scrolled....nada. But because I wanted to make it so bad and I knew Jax was about to grow out of this shirt, I just tackled it...hoping that it would come out all right.

So....basically what I wanted was to find a way for Jax's white button up church shirt to quit riding up! I love a baby in a onesie...esp in this humidity! I don't like putting my sweaty hands on his sweaty little belly, all sticky and pinch-y. And that's what would happen with this church shirt...it just kept coming untucked. And I REFUSE to put him in any kind of layers...thats just mean.

I took a onesie I wasn't going to use again and his button up shirt.

Then I cut the onesie bottom off...maybe an inch and a half from the hip area. I didn't cut the church shirt, that seemed a bit to final for me!

But I did stitch the bottom 2-3 inches of the shirt below the buttons, that way it would stay in place when I sewed it.

Then you turn both parts, top and bottom, inside out and sew! I tried to pin it here and there to keep it straight, but the onesie bottom was alot smaller (which you want) and I basically just stretched and sewed in a straight-ish line.

Once you make it all the way around, this is what you'll have. It's ok if it's gathered, because this part will be tucked in! And you still have diaper access at the bottom with the snaps.

Jax wore this last week for the first and last time. Somebody tell the boy to slow down with all the growing!! But I'm glad this worked out the first time around, so now I know what to do with the next one I plan on putting together.

Have I mentioned I'm a bit addicted to sewing? Like...I think about it all the time, what I can sew, what I can make...it's....ummm....really fun!!
